For the uninitiated, 0.78 was a ghost. A specific snapshot of MAME—the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator—from the spring of 2003. Back when the internet was a howling wilderness of dial-up tones and forum flame wars, the 0.78 ROMset was the holy grail. It wasn’t the biggest set, or the newest. But it was the stable one.
